What Makes a Blog Post Engaging? 🤔
After reading several technology and learning blogs linked by my classmates, I have noticed a few things in what makes a blog post more engaging. The most interesting blogs to me are the ones that are simple and clean, but still have good information and get the point across well. Some of the blogs had way too much information and it wasn't easy to follow. Other blogs felt a bit too formal, which made it not relatable or something you could link back to your own experiences. Even when the topic is complex, a good blog can break down the ideas in an organized and approachable way.
Another thing that stood out to me is that good blog posts have a solid purpose. No matter the goal, it is usually clear what the purpose of the blog is. It could be a reflection, someone sharing tips and tricks, or just general information about a topic. I feel that strong blog posts make it obvious why they were made and who can benefit from the information. Following that, some of the better blogs I read included personal experiences or knowledge. This also made the content feel more relatable instead of generic.
And the last thing I noticed involves visuals. When there was too much going on with visuals such as a ton of pictures, random colors, and a bunch of different fonts, it was hard to focus. The blogs that had shorter paragraphs, clear headers, and some white space throughout, made it easier to follow for me personally. I also noticed that some blogs asked for feedback from readers or asked questions. I feel like this could make a reader feel more involved rather than feel like they are just studying documents for class. I want to apply these elements to my own blog by keeping things clear, reflective, and focused on real experiences and learning rather than trying to sound overly academic.
