Building a Professional Learning Network (That Doesn't Feel Forced) 🔨
One idea from the Professional Learning Network (PLN) readings that stood out to me is that PLN doesn't need to be formal or complicated to be useful. I usually imagined a professional network to be LinkedIn connections, people you meet through work and networking, or some sort of professional conference. However, PLN can be made up of things like blogs, online communities, social media, and people that you may already learn things from without realizing it. I believe that this makes PLN feel less intimidating and also more realistic! PLNs also grow naturally over time, which can also make learning feel less like a chore and more suitable for real life.
Another thing about PLN is that it's not just about reading or watching content, but more so about engaging with it. Commenting on blogs, sharing your own ideas, and reflecting on what you have learned helps everything sink in more. Even doing class blogs like this one, reading other student posts has helped me see technology and learning from different perspectives. It feels like we are all learning together, even though it's all online. I like the flexibility of being able to learn online, and I also like the flexibility of PLNs. Careers can change, interests change, and what you need or want to learn can change too. If a certain blog or platform stops being helpful to you, you can move on to a new one that is more suitable.
Hailey, I really liked how you explained that PLNs don't have to be super formal or scary. The part about already learning from blogs and people without realizing it really clicked for me. I also agree that commenting and sharing makes learning stick more than just reading. It's cool how you pointed out that PLNs can change as we change.
ReplyDeleteI had the same takeaway about learning being much more informal that we often picture it. You did a great job discussing how learning happen in everyday ways. You made a great point about PLNs growing over time. I am in my fifth year in my position and my list of people to call and resources has grown significantly!
