Introduction Blog 🎉

 I am starting this blog as a part of my technology and learning course! I am not completely sure what it will entail, but I hope this blog can be a place where I reflect on how technology supports learning, and how it can be used in professional and non-traditional settings. In this course, I will explore different tools, ideas, and strategies that are related to learning and development. Hopefully, this blog will help me process and connect my ideas along with my classmates ideas, to real work experiences. 

With my blog, I am hoping to make things more practical and relatable. I think I learn best myself when I reflect on what I am reading or doing, test out ideas, and then try to connect them to experiences I have already had. Blogging seems like a good way to do that, you have to slow down and think about whatever we may be learning or doing in class. This should result in thinking deeper about how technology and learning link together in different ways.

By the end of the course, my blog should show a deeper understanding of technology and learning in general. Not just in what I have learned, but also in how I can write and communicate my ideas. I also hope that using the blog will help me with my reflections on what I have learned, and being able to express myself clearly. I hope this will become a resource I can look back at if I need or want to, or even use blogging for a different reason. That could be for future classes, professional work, or even just for a personal journal, it would be a good reminder of how I have grown. 💗

Building a Professional Learning Network (That Doesn't Feel Forced) 🔨

One idea from the Professional Learning Network (PLN) readings that stood out to me is that PLN doesn't need to be formal or complicated to be useful. I usually imagined a professional network to be LinkedIn connections, people you meet through work and networking, or some sort of professional conference. However, PLN can be made up of things like blogs, online communities, social media, and people that you may already learn things from without realizing it. I believe that this makes PLN feel less intimidating and also more realistic!  PLNs also grow naturally over time, which can also make learning feel less like a chore and more suitable for real life. Rethinking Stress & Having New Perspectives😌

  One video that I have added to my PLN is a TED Talk, How to Make Stress Your Friend , by Kelly McGonigal. In the TED talk, she discusses that the common belief is that stress is always harmful but she challenges that. She presents research that suggests our mindset about stress can have a significant impact on how it affects us. So instead of focusing on eliminating all stress, she talks about framing it as a response that will prepare us for challenges. Having this mentality when it comes to stress can actually improve performance and resilience as well.  What stood out to me is how relevant this perspective can be in professional environments. Most of the time, even in many workplaces, stress is viewed mainly as a negative outcome from things like high expectations or heavy workloads. How Feedly Makes Following Blogs Easier 🤓

 This week I learned about a tool new to me called Feedly. Before using Feedly, it was a bit difficult to follow the blogs that I wanted to. I could open a bunch of tabs, make bookmarks, or just leave blogs open, but it never felt very smooth or efficient. I just assumed that I didn't like learning information from multiple blogs because of this. However, I downloaded Feedly to try it out and it puts all the blogs in one place. The updated ones show up automatically, and it made everything more organized overall. This actually has a huge impact on motivation. When information is scattered, or difficult to find, it makes it overwhelming for me. I like information to be clear and laid out in a way that makes it easy to find the things you need. Having Feedly makes a central feed for blogs that makes it easier to follow.
